We will travel within the Discovery Islands, Tidal Rapids and Coast Mountain fjords looking for any number of Humpback Whales, Orca Whales, Black Bears, Grizzly Bears, Pacific white-sided dolphins, Dall’s Porpoise, Stellar Sea Lions, Harbour Seals, Marine Birds, and Bald Eagles. Every tour is different and what wildlife we see on tours varies depending on the seasonal migrations of marine and terrestrial mammals.

DEVILS HOLE RAPIDS, FASTEST TIDAL RAPIDS IN THE WORLD...

This is a Tidal Rapid called Devils Hole. The full & new moon cycles
produce the biggest flood tides and currents! 13 knots, thats 24km/hr!

These tidal rapid off Campbell River & Quadra Island are scattered throughout the Discovery Islands. In fact, we have two of the fastest tidal rapids in the world here! The Arran Rapids in the Discovery Islands and Nakwakto Rapids (Turrent Rock), North of Port Hardy on the mainland.

Life in the Discovery Islands is determined by the ebb & flood tides and most often influences our decisions while guiding. Whether you’re a Biggs killer whale, guide, or a tug boat captain towing a barge, navigating the tides & currents is a part of life here. Lucky for us, we can traverse these natural phenomenons (safely) at the maximum flow with our high powered zodiacs. Experts only!
