Conscious Living & Sustainability

Conscious Living

At Wild Waterways Adventures (WWA) we are very passionate about having FUN and respecting Mother Nature while doing so. When you immerse yourself into the natural world of wildlife and coastal temperate rainforests it is only a matter of time until an unparalleled reverence takes hold of you. You consciously realize you are a part of a whole and how you live and run a business directly affects all of nature.

Commitment to Sustainability

WWA has an Ecotourism business model which aligns with our core values and goals. We aim to give back to the environment and support the community of Quadra Island as we invest in local projects that will help conserve ecological integrity on the island in various ways

Conservation Fee

We will charge a conservation fee on every tour and donate it back to our community of Quadra Island and the Discovery Islands. Your conservation fee and any donations we receive will go to support community projects on Quadra Island that help to restore and maintain ecological integrity.

We will support any local conservation projects that aim to protect and educate on local biodiversity, this can be done in a variety of ways. For example, a class field trip or restoration project at the local school, any conservation and or restoration of forest lands and wildlife habitat in partnership with local First Nations, Conservancy’s and other local stakeholders.

We can also support local research projects that focus on fish & wildlife conservation and research. At our discretion, each year we will choose a local initiative to donate the funds to.

In addition, we are proud members of the North Island Marine Mammal Stewardship Association (NIMMSA). Each season a portion of our conservation fee will be donated to NIMMSA. NIMMSA awards local grants each year for up to $12,000 on North Vancouver Island that support marine life conservation initiatives.

A Carbon Neutral Company

Wild Waterways Adventures has been a carbon neutral company since our inception in 2021. Investing in a low carbon economy; we are a member of the growing movement striving to transition to a low carbon economy. We are working closely with Offsetters, Canada’s leading carbon management solutions provider, to understand our total carbon dioxide and greenhouse gas emissions, to reduce them as much as possible and offset the difference by contributing to projects that prevent the equivalent amount of emissions from being released into the atmosphere. Offsetters’ projects are verified and validated by third parties to ensure that the emission reductions are real, additional and permanent.

Our offset contributions

We have a very exciting portfolio for our offset contributions!

Organic High Quality Food Choices

We intend to set ourselves apart from many businesses and set the bar high serving good quality food and coffee.

Our lunches contain as many organic ingredients as possible and they are homemade on Quadra Island. Our coffee is organic, fair trade, made with beans sourced through café femenino a foundation committed to end the cycle of poverty affecting woman coffee farmers world-wide. And this special coffee is roasted right her on Quadra Island by Aroma Roasters.

People rarely think about the detrimental impacts of toxic pesticides from the Agriculture Industry on the ocean and our apex marine mammals such as whales. One of the main reasons our Resident and Biggs Orca Whales continue to be endangered and threatened under the BC Species at Risk Act (SARA) is due to bioaccumulation from toxins in the water and food chain.

Farmlands that are not organic use chemicals like Organophosphorus gas on fruits which were originally developed as a chemical weapon before World War II. These toxins accumulate in lower trophic level species like plankton, Pacific herring and salmon. Because of toxins like this and many others in the water, a process ensues called biomagnification by scientists. Orcas, which are the top predator in the ocean, end up consuming the highest levels of contaminants because these toxins have accumulated throughout the food chain.
